The village of Mikri Vigla is set around a headland (Mikri Vigla means look out). It has about seven tavernas and two supermarkets.
It has another beach to the south of the headland which is effectively the north of Kastraki beach. It is sheltered when a breeze is blowing on Parthenos beach. It has an excellent taverna on the beach.
Plaka Beach A kilometre north of the house is the southern end of Plaka Beach.

Beach from Orkos House
Plaka Beach stretches some four kilometres from Aghia Anna to Orkos. It is backed by various restaurants, accomodation and a campsite near Aghia Anna. It is a beautiful beach and rarely feels too crowded, even in August.
Behind it is the fertile Plaka valley with a network of fields, the small chapel of Aghia Matteus and the remains of a Hellenistic tower.
A dirt road goes along the valley from Orkos and joins Plaka Beach halfway along. It then follows the beach to Aghia Anna.
